CarNet help section

The following sections are intended to provide a brief guide to the functions of CarNet along with a few tips on buying and selling.

    A note on pricing:

You will see different types of pricing on CarNet. Here is a simple guide:

  • 'Price': This should be the total, drive away price, applying to all Private Seller Cars and many Dealer cars
  • 'Price EGC': means Price, including GST, but excluding some Government charges such as Stamp duty (which varies by State), and potentially other fees. Dealers may list this price for a more accurate comparison, particularly for buyers out of state. They may also list a drive away price or make additional notes in the description field
  • 'POA': means 'Price on Application'. You may see this in the 'Price EGC' field, where cars have many build option variations and in the case of top-end luxury and performance cars. Again, the Dealer will require more information to provide an accurate price
  • 'Bidding Guide': In the 'Car Auctions' section, prices listed with vehicles are intended as a 'Bidding Guide' at auction. A selection of these cars are also published in the Dealer Used section, with a 'Price EGC' if available for sale prior to auction.
  • NOTE: You should ALWAYS check the pricing and details of a vehicle with the Seller, as listing errors can occur.

CarNet Simplifies the process of identifying your next new or used car into three simples steps

1. Search and filter

2. Select cars of interest and compare side by side

3. Enquire and buy

Our Search panel is available from the top of every page and can be hidden or expanded as required. You can search by 'Make', 'Model' and other attributes, OR just select your budgeted Price Range and hit your keyboard 'enter' button, OR type a few keywords into the optional Search text box and select 'Go'.

By default, your search results will appear in our unique text-only dynamic display window which can be set to a 'Grid View' with sortable description columns (effectively displaying up to 50 cars at a time) OR, the more traditional 'List View' with thumbnails.

In each case, you are just one click away from an expanded 'Detail View' and 'Enquiry form', all without leaving the search results page.

You can also refine your seach further via the the filter panel in the left menu position.

Using the selection check box next to each vehicle listing you can:

  • Save favourites to your 'Short-list' for later review.
  • 'Compare' details of up to five cars side-by-side.
  • 'Share' your favourites on Facebook or Twitter.
  • 'Email' vehicle details to yourself - or a friend.

Top

  • Once you have your information and images ready to upload, you are ready to create your ad.
  • It will only take a few minutes. Just complete the details of your vehicle and upload your images.
  • Your new Ad, along with any subsequent price adjustments or edits will take a couple of hours to appear in search results.

Ad types:

  • You can select from our 'Standard Ad' which includes all features - up to 20 images, a slideshow and a comprehensive description. Our 'Premium Ad' simply ensures higher visibility by being displayed before similar 'Standard Ads'.
  • The choice is yours. Both Ad types will also feature equally in our 'Car Alert' service which will provide email notification to potential buyers who have created an 'Alert' profile, where your car matches the buyers' profile requirements.

Setting your asking price:

  • A note on price. Please be realistic. The market is competitive, so take a moment to see what other sellers are asking for similar cars of a similar Model, age and condition. Most roadworthy cars will sell if they meet the market demand and are priced accordingly.
  • Dealer prices will often command a premium over Private sale cars as they have generally been refurbished, come with a warranty, guaranteed title, trade-in and finance facilities, so take that into account when setting your asking price. You will also have the opportunity of indicating if you are open to offers.
  • Your cars does not need to be the cheapest in the market, but it must represent good 'comparative value' to attact potential buyers.

  • The Premium Ad option provides a great way to have you car listed ahead of all simlilar cars presented as Standard Ads.
  • Order of presentation is also determined by comparative price and number of photos displayed, rewarding efficient sellers.

Top

  • Now that your ad has been placed, any enquiries will be forwarded to your email, and you may also receive direct calls.
  • You can login at any time to see a summary of page views and enquiries. A high number of page views with little or no enquiry, generally indicates that your price, needs reconsideration, or your description might require an edit. You can update your listing at any time and will run at no extra charge until you sell.
  • To manage older listings, your ad will run initially for 60 days and can be relisted until sold. When your car does sell, please return to your profile page and mark as 'SOLD' (this will remove you car from listing and prevent further contact) If you are looking to replace your sold car, your profile will also auto-fill any enquiries that you make, streamlining the process.
  • Price Guides:
Potential Buyers will find a link to our 'Market Price Guide' in the top left corner of the vehicle details page.
Sellers will find a similar link withiin the 'Create Ad' form.
In both cases current live market pricing will checked, not only for vehicles for sale on CarNet, but across other major Automotive websites too. You will be presented with current 'Low', 'High' and 'Median' prices to help you gauge values as a buyer, or to set a relaisitc price, if you are selling. This live market tool is unique to CarNet. Other sites refer to historical data, which has less relevance to the current market conditions, which like all active markets, fluctuate according to supply and demand.

For a little extra effort, you may be rewarded with a significantly better sale price.
  • First impressions are extremely important. We strongly suggest that you invest in a full detail including engine bay steam, wax and polish, and for older cars, a buff and cut also. People expect a few little honest marks here and there. Most buyers are looking for reliabilty and value, whatever the age and budget. If not a full service, an oil and filter change, roadworthy tyres and a brake adjustment will go a long way to a favourable impression.
  • If you believe that your car is a quality example of the model for its age, invest in a mechanical inspection report, either through your motoring club or even the local guy who has done your servicing and knows the car. Consider asking fo a 'pre-inspection' report.
It is a great way to become aware of any items that may have proven to be a deal-breaker or needing attention, improving the formal report and maximising your return. That does not mean that you should over-capitalise on an old beater, but you can consider your options.
  • If nothing else, try and present the car as clean and tidy as possible.

  • If you have a mobile phone or a digital camera, ask to see the buyers drivers licence and photograph it.
  • Do not accept 'wire transfers',overseas cheques, money orders.Be supicious of any 'instant' transfer
Be suspicious of anyone wanting to pay by cheque or paypal then suggesting an overpayment, or part payment towards shipping or any delivery agent, or claiming a bank error.
